Silver Goddess Award
PECIME
The goddesses of silver is a film award given to the best of Mexican cinema by Pecime (cinematographic journalists from Mexico, A.C.). Its first delivery was carried out March 8, 1963.
This award is delivered every year.
Its origin dates back to 1961. In Paris "México Cinema", the journalist Benjamín Ortega, the father of Journalist Guillermo Ortega Ruiz, instituted the Xochiquetzal or Xochipilli, as a stimulus to the most outstanding works in the various specialties within the Fílmic Queo.
But in 1962, given the impossibility of sponsoring the delivery annually, Ortega yielded the Figurine to film journalists from Mexico (Pecime), whose partners determined to stylize the initially male figure and change the name. The plume and tunic dictated that of silver goddess, besides that they were then bathed with gold.
Amalgam of figures of Aztec mythology, the prize represents the God of creation, fertility, arts, wisdom and perseverance; Hence the elements that compose it: the spike, the turtle on which the sphinx is sown (symbol of wisdom), the snake and the plume.
To guarantee the continuity of its delivery, the partners raised the possibility that each sculpture will take the name of a celebrity willing to cover its cost.
Gabriel Figueroa, Luis Buñuel, Mario Moreno Cantinflas and María Félix accepted the treatment, but, at the Assembly held on June 13, 1962, the Steering Committee decided to absorb production costs as it happens to date.
The first delivery of goddowns of silver was recorded on March 8, 1963 at Hotel María Isabel. Tlayucan (1961), Ribbon by Luis Alcoriza, produced by Matouk, S.A., was the first to obtain it.
